THE MARITIME BOUNDARY PROBLEMS UNITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIAN IN RONDO ISLAND, THE ACEH PROVINCE, VIEWED IN TERMS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON THE LAW OF THE SEA (UNCLOS III 1982)
Abstract: The Rondo island is
the outer islands of Indonesian which has a very small area. Located in the
Indian Ocean and adjacent maritime areas directly with 5 (five) countries, that
is India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, and Malaysia. The Rondo island is the
northernmost region of the Republic of Indonesia and is administratively a part
of the city of Sabang, Aceh province. The island is located in the north of the
island of Weh. Indonesia's strategic position, making such disputes arise
various problems with judicially determined yet for Indonesian maritime border
lodging in Rondo island is directly adjacent to the 5 (five) countries,
although the Law of the Sea Convention arrangements set out in the 1982 UNCLOS
III has represented by the International maritime border region that regulates
the Continental Shelf, Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone. With socio
legal research methods, data collection techniques, interviews, and document
study analyzed qualitatively. The results of the research that Indonesian
maritime border Rondo Island in particular, provide an important role as the
subordination of law enforcement based on the jurisdiction of a sovereign state
territory, but it is what determines the boundaries of economic problems as a
source of livelihood of the people and managed by the Indonesian state. Various
settings, it is not so all applied in determining maritime boundaries due to
coexist with other countries of Indonesia. Thus the Indonesian maritime
territory which is so rich in strategic and sea, should establish maritime
boundaries Rondo Island with these countries, so they no longer cause problems
in the future.
