Abstract: Children as
witnesses under Article 171 letter a Criminal Procedure Code and Article 1
paragraph 5 of Law No. 11 Year 2012 on Child Criminal Justice System. One of
the cases where children are witnesses, namely the crime of child trafficking
were uncovered in the city of Padang. Formulation of the problem: (1) What is
the nature of legal protection of children as witnesses in a criminal case in
the District Court of Class IA Padang? (2) Are the constraints faced in
providing legal protection for children as witnesses in a criminal case in the
District Court of Class IA Padang? Namely juridical sociological research
approach. Data sources are primary data and secondary data. Mechanical Data
collection through interviews and document study. Data were analyzed
qualitatively. Results: (1) The legal protection of children as witnesses in a
criminal case in the District Court of Class IA Padang in accordance with Article
1 paragraph 1 of Law No. 35 of 2014 on Protection of Children and Article 58 of
Law No. 11 Year 2012 on System child criminal justice (2) constraints faced in
providing legal protection for children as witnesses in a criminal case in the
