PERAN WOMEN’S FORUM DALAM PENYELESAIAN KONFLIK DAN PEMBANGUNAN DEMOKRASI DI SIERRA LEONE
Abstract: The civil
war for 11
years in Sierra
Leone led to
suffering of women,
both during and in the post-war period. But women were not only regarded
as victims but also as agents of change. The efforts made by women’s group in
the country were actively in
facilitating women’s inclusion
in conflict resolution
and democratization. Women’s Forum as one of the women’s group in Sierra
Leone played an active
role in the
peace process, which
included organising campaigns, demonstrations, debates
to advocate for
peace. Women’s Forum have been
active in lobbying
for the holding
of two national
Consultative Conference in 1995
and 1996, which
paved the way
for the transition
to democratic rule. Women’s Forum
mobilising for of
the 30 percent
quota for women’s representation
in parliament. Morever, the efforts made by women’s groups in
the country and
involvement of international
organitations in partnership with
either the government or women’s group to provide assistance to female victims
of violence.
