PENINGKATAN ACTIVE ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT MELALUI METODE TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR
Abstract: The aim of this
study is to increase students learning achievement of active English through
Total Physical Response method in elementary schools. The focus is related to
the students needs of an active English skill that is how to use language
actively in communication. This study can be classified into a classroom action
research. The subjects are the students of grade IV, SDN Manunggal Bantul. The
study uses observation and test to collect the data. Then the data are analyzed
by conducting qualitative descriptive method. The finding shows that Total
Physical Response method is able to increase students achievement of active
English. There is a significant increasing achievement reached by the students,
especially on the spoken respon activities and direct physical respon
activities toward the spoken instructions and physical action of the teachers
and among the students. Besides, there is also significant increasing on the
motoric activities of the students in interactive conversation. Generally,
direct thingking and direct response can promote the students motivation in
vocabulary acquisition so it can improve the students active English
achievement.
