PENYERAPAN ION Cd (II) DAN Zn (II) DALAM AIR LIMBAH MENGGUNAKAN KULIT JENGKOL (Pithecellobium jiringa Prain.)

Abstract: The sorption ability of Pithecellobium jiringa  Prain. shell has been investigated for removal  Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions. Effect of pH, initial concentration of metal solution, contact time, biosorbent dosage, and agitation rate have been studied for investigating optimal conditions of biosorption process based on batch experiment. The optimal condition for removal Cd(II) ion was achieved at pH 5 within 15 minutes and 0,1 g of biosorbent dosage at agitation rate of 150 rpm in initial concentration of 3000 mg/L. Meanwhile the optimal condition for sorption of Zn(II) was achieved at pH 4 within 90 minutes and 0,1 g of biosorbent dosage at agitation rate of 100 rpm in initial concentration 2000 mg/L. The optimal conditions have been applied in sample of Batang Arau  River of Padang city and removal efficiency of metals achieved for Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions were 94,29 % and 74,37%, respectively with metal uptake 0,3922 mg/g and 0,1144 mg/g, respectively.  The analysis of FT-IR spectra indicated the possible functional groups involved in sorption process of metals were hydroxil, carboxyl, sulfonyl. Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm have been studied and good correlation was obtained from Langmuir isotherm with value ≥ 0,976. The maximum capacity of Cd (II) and Zn(II) ions with Pithecellobium jiringa  Prain. shell determined from Langmuir isotherm were found to be 20,32 mg/g and 16,67 mg/g, respectively.
