SISTEM PERAKARAN TANAMAN SENGON LAUT (Paraserianthes falcataria (L) Nielsen) PADA LAHAN BEKAS PENAMBANGAN TIPE C
Abstract: Type C (sand and
stone) mining activities in Cangkringan sub-district of Yogyakarta province
have been concentrated on people land, and usually followed by Sengon Laut
planting as their attempT to land reclamation. The growth of Sengon Laut Root
system will likely be influenced by the change of soil composition and
structure, so that the study was carried to understand the relationship root
growth of the physical properties and nutrient availability of soil, especially
Nitrogen, Phosphor and Potassium elements. Rooting system of Sengon Laut stands
aged 7 to 8 years old had been obseved using Weaver method (Coster, 1981), by
digging soil around sample tree at certain depth and distance. Included The
detailed identification of the relationship between root system and the growing
media, physical and chemical analysis has been done in the soil laboratory of
agricultural faculty. The Result showed that sengon roots grown on virgin land
generally grown straight down to 120 cm depth, while the length of lateral root
at 0-30 cm depth less than 10 m. The
number of root order of sengon grown virgin land was less than that of mined
over area, the root system concentrated the at upper layer, about 62 % of roots
system spread out horizontally, although not equal in all direction. The
average diameter of sengon tree is 26,97 cm yields average biomass weight of
330,80 kg tree. On the mined-over area, Sengon Laut has straight root down
to more than 200 cm depth. Length of
lateral root may reach tens of meters, when grown on soil of 0-30 cm deep. The
number of root order is more than that of the virgin land, concentrates on the
upper layer, about 64 % of roots spread out horizontally equal all direction.
The average of plant biomass was 549,32 kg with average diameter of 30,11 cm.
The root physical parameters on both lands are root depth, the length of
lateral root, the number of root order, and the biomass. The best physical
parameters are reached by plant with good growth category. The physical
parameters are lower on the moderate and worse plant growth category. In
general, the rooting of Sengon Laut is better the post-mining soil than on the
virgin soil. Soil physical property analysis showed that the biggest humidity
by found on upper layer, is closely related to the root concentration on ten
upper layer. The soil texture normally porous. The organic contents of soil,
abundantly obseved on upper layer which is 10 cm thick, and gradually decreased
with increasing depth., the organic material on the soil that had been mined is
low but the porosity is high thus the root easily grow. The level of nutrient
contents, especially for N, P and K on these sandy areas are low.
