POPULASI RUSA DAN PEMANFAATAN RUSA DI DAERAH PADANG RUMPUT ALAM DEMBEK SIWI RANSIKI KABUPATEN MANOKWARI
ABSTRACT: The aim of this
research to estimate deer population and its utilization in natural pasture of
Dembek-Siwi Ransiki at Manokwari. The Line Transect Method was used to estimate
deer population. The result showed that deer population were between 1,58-14,35
heads/km2 or 0,0158 - 1,435 heads/ha. The age structure (adult, sub-adult, and
fawns) was 10:3:1, and the sexual structure (male, famale) was 1:2. The habitat
was dominated with alang-alang (Imperata cylindrica). The local people in the
region had traditional hunting system by using simple tools such as bow and
arrow, chopping knife, livetraps. They sometimes hunted deer by using dogs.
Deer hunters from Manokwari and Ransiki also used the fire guns. The several
objectives of the deer hunting were to family income, meat consuming, and
harvesting of antler.
