EKOLOGI PERSARANGAN BURUNG MALEO GUNUNG (AEPYPODIUS ARFAKIANUS) PADA AREAL ALIRAN KALI MOKWAM KABUPATEN MANOKWARI PAPUA BARAT

ABSTRACT: This study about ecology of Maleo nesting was conducted for get the first information in the hatchery and cultivation effort. The research was used descriptive method with observation technique. The sample interpretation was conducted in an accidental manner was based on location where nest discovered. Recorded variables were the size, shape, composer matter, making location, temperature and humidity, and vegetation around nest. The result of research was showed that the nest was marked at 800-900 m height from above sea level (dpl), the pile height nest ranging from 0,91 m, diameter of nest ranging from 4,01 m. The shape of nest was majority sperical and was maked in the open forest with the shelter closed ranging from < 25 – 50%. The nest composer matter consist of soil (49,92%), leaves manure (34,77%) twig + wood chunck (7,67%), piece of gravel (4,72%) and soft root (2,89%). Temperature around nest was 220C – 270C with 85 – 100% humidity. Temperature out of nest was 270C – 320C with 50 – 55% humidity. The kind of vegetation that growth around nest was very various but was dominated by kind of Syzygium sp, Leucosyke sp, Nauclea sp, Litsea sp, Diplazium sp, Pipturus sp, Eugenia sp, Alchornea sp, Sterculia sp and Aglia sp.
