KAJIAN POTENSI TUMBUHAN GELAM (Melaleuca cajuputi Powell) UNTUK BAHAN BAKU INDUSTRI PULP : ASPEK KANDUNGAN KIMIA KAYU
Abstract: A research on
determination of chemical content of the wood from “gelam” plant (Melaleuca
cajuputi Powell) has been conducted in order to examine its potency to be used
as raw material for pulp industry. The research was done by using gravimetric
analysis method based on the manual of pulp chemical analysis issued by
Laboratorium Balai Besar Pulp dan Kertas Bandung. The result of this research
showed that the sample of gelam wood contained some chemical substances, which
are α-cellulose, holocellulose, lignin, extractive substances, and ash, each
having the composition of 37; 75,39; 22,85; 18,85; 4,58 dan 0,92%,
respectively. Compared to the classification of quality of the woods to be used
as raw material for pulp industry based on the chemical composition, then
generally wood of gelam plant has a medium quality.
