Abstract: The role of UNICEF
to overcome child marriage in Indonesia is to be a place to cooperate, to
produce decisions together, and as an institution to carry out the activities
required to overcome child marriage. UNICEF efforts, among others, is to urge
the state to change the marriage age limit to 18 years minimum, providing
access to and improving the quality of education, especially primary education,
provide assistance to girls who are married in the form of assistance in
school, health, skills, and self protection, as well as providing economic
assistance for social services, especially those related to health, education
and protection to prevent child marriage. Barriers faced by UNICEF is the lack
of public knoweledge about the risks of child marriage, stigma and
discrimination against women, and religious laws that conflict with the
Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974.
