PERAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PASIFIC (ESCAP) MELALU ECO-SUSTAINABLE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE DALAM REVITALISASI SUNGAI CIKAPUNDUNG TAHUN 2011-2013
Abstract: Water quality of
Cikapundung River as a raw water provider for Bandung increasingly decreased as
a result of change in land uses which lack the environmental’s rule, riverside
which prone to landslide, erosion, large fluctuation of water discharge, river
narrowing caused illegal settlement construction, pollution from domestic,
hospital & factory wastes, and sedimentation. In addition, water management
was not optimally fullfill the need for clean water in Bandung. So, it
encourage ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pasific) as an
United Nations regional institution to develop ESWIn (Eco-sustainable Water
Infrastructure) in revitalization of Cikapundung River. ESWIn bring a new
method that implement the principle of environment and economic efficiency. By
using descriptive method and secondary literature study with qualitative
analitiycs, researcher try to describe the role of ESCAP as the initiator,
fasilitator and assist in funding for the implementation of ESWIn. With some
obstacles, ESCAP considered to be successful enough in intialize a new method
for clean water management within the ESWIn’s framework
