KAJIAN PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN KATALIS TERHADAP KUALITAS PRODUK MINYAK HASIL PIROLISIS SAMPAH PLASTIK

ABSTRACT: A significant growth of the plastic consumption and production has resulted in an increased generation of waste plastics. To minimize the environmental impact and to reduce damages caused by waste plastics, they must be recycled and recovered. Waste plastics possess a very high calorific value since they are derived from crude oil. Therefore, producing fuels such as diesel, kerosene and gasoline by using feedstock recycling is a very promising method to recycle waste plastics due to the vast amount of plastics that cannot be economically recovered by conventional mechanical recycling processes. This paper reviews the use of catalyst for cracking waste plastics. This review summarizes some aspects in waste plastics conversion process from reaction mechanism to application in diesel engine. There are two methods for utilizing catalyst in a pyrolysis reaction i.e. direct catalytic cracking and combination of pyrolysis dan catalytic reforming processes. The use of natural zeolite as an alternative catalyst has also been discussed to replace the use of commercial catalysts. Finally, some physical properties of waste plastics oil has also been reviewed to meet the requirement of the engine.
