WASTE ANALYSIS IN SELF-SERVICE PROCESS
ABSTRACT: Lean manufacturing
has been implemented in manufacture industry as well as in service industry.
There are some differences between product and service industry, but there is
one similarity that both of product and service industry has, that is; they
need two parties in process delivery, producer and consumer. But nowadays, the
new style of service delivery is formed; it is the self-service system, where
the producer and consumer of service is one person, so a consumer is a producer
for his or her own self. Hence, it has the different point of view in
eliminating wastes. Thus, this research is undertaken to identify what kind of wastes
that emerge in self-service system. This research is non-probability sampling
using 30 samples. Samples are chosen randomly by incidental sampling according
with the criteria that is set before. This research uses two data, cycle time
and elemental breakdown of self-service borrowing book process. According the
result, it can be concluded that in self-service area, the Mura, Muri and Muda
can be appeared. But, the most is Muri and this makes a thought that the
facility or infrastructure availability is the most important part in
self-service in order to make service delivery becomes flow process. Besides,
it is also right that the Muda can happened because of two sources, the
consumer allows it or because the facility is inadequate (in other word, Muri
will produce Muda).
