UPAYA UNESCO DALAM PELESTARIAN CANDI BOROBUDUR SEBAGAI SITUS WARISAN DUNIA PASCA ERUPSI MERAPI TAHUN 2010

Abstract: The volcanic dust of Merapi’s eruption in 2010 has given some significant impact on the Borobudur and the surrounding areas. Among them is the whole area of the temple was covered with volcanic dust 2.5-5cm thickness, number of diseases  of  the  respiratory  tract,  decreasing  the  number  of  tourists  the  temple, the people around the temple lost livelihoods, the power cutteddring one week, and  the  rise  of  crime  around  the  temple.  The  UNESCO  effort  to  solve  various impacts caused due to the of Merapi’s eruption in Borobudur are: 1) Provide technical assistance, training for temple cleaning process assisted by Japan and Italy;  2)  grant  funds  from  UNESCO’s  donor  countries;  3)  provide humanitarian  assistance  due  eruption  such  as  provide  some  fundsfor  refugee homes;  4)  sending  550  experts  for  cleansing  the  temple;  5)  conservation  of Borobudur  temple  with  short-term  conservation  stages,  stages  of  conservation medium  and  long  term.  With  these  efforts  the  Indonesian  government  and UNESCO  to  improve  the  preservation  and  protection  of  the  Borobudur  temple as a World Cultural Heritage.
