PERAN WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE (WWF) DALAM KONSERVASI ORANGUTAN DI TAMAN NASIONAL BETUNG KERIHUN KABUPATEN KAPUAS HULU PROVINSI KALIMANTAN BARAT
Abstract: National Park Betong
Kerihun (BKNP) is the largest conservation area in West Kalimantan Province.
This conservation area status of National Park through the Minister of Forest
rydecree No.467/Kpts-II/1995 dated 5 September 1995. Region BKNP is within four
(4) sub-districtis District Embaloh Upstream, Downs tream Embaloh the District,
the District and the District of North Putussibau South Putussibau which is an
administrative region of Kapuas Hulu.
WWF role in orangutan conservation Betong Kerihun Profinsi Kapuas Hulu in
West Kalimantan is very good. This is evident from the level of the economyis
based on the proposition and visitors as well as better infrastructure towards
forest conservation BKNP, 5 years ago the road impassable by land, through
river sorbo at 5 years ago 6-7 hours now only be reached with a3-4hours.
Facilities for orangutan conservationis also maintained and properly
maintained. This is in collaboration with the forest service and the manager
every week BKNP observe the location of protected areas and observationnests
orangutan habitat.
National Park area Betong Kerihun (BKNP) was originally a nature reserve
(formerly named Bentung Karimun Nature Reserve) with an area of 600,000
hectares set by the Minister of Agriculture in 1982 . BKNP area designated as a
national park finally and changed its name to the National Park Betong Kerihun
. Height of the region located between 300-1960 meters above sea level . Faunal
diversity in BKNP very high, including orang-utans, sun bears , monkeys and
gibbons white. Percentage oforangutan habitats howedan increase compared to the
previous percentage of poor as well as the lack of education about the
functions and benefits of forest conservation BKNP againstimmigrant.
