FACEBOOK AS A TOOL FOR ENGLISH LEARNING OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract: This research  aims  to find  out the  students’ perception and their experiences  in using  Facebook  (FB)  as  the  tool  for  learning  English.  The subjects  of  this  research  were  senior  high  school  students  who  are  active users  of  FB.  The  data  of this  case  study were  derived from  interviews  and observation of the students’ activities on FB. The data showed that all of the 10 FB users agreed that FB can be used as a tool for English learning. The students  learned  English  via  FB  by  writing  their  status  in  English,commenting their friends’ status in English, replying inbox or chatting with other  country’s  friends  by  using English,  reading  postings  in  English, joining  English  Groups,  writing  postings  on  Pages in  English,  writing postings  on  Groups in  English, commenting  pictures  or  photos which have English words on them, and sharing links in English that can  be an article, video, song’s lyric, event, news and many other links as long as they are still in English.
