Competency-Task Based Curriculum Design dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di PGSD
Abstract: This study is
motivated by the needs of an appropriate English curriculum design for students
of the Elementary School Teacher Education. Based on the preliminary study, the
former English curriculum mostly contains Grammatical Knowledge/Passive English
and English for the General Profession, so it is not suitable with the needs of
the students who wish to be elementary school teachers. This study is conducted
by using Research and Development approach as pointed out by Borg and Gall
(1983, p. 775-776). The finding shows that English curriculum should be
designed based on the current theories of English Language Teaching which
covers 4 areas of Communicative Competences: grammatical competence,
sociolinguistic competence, discourse competence, strategic competence. These
Competences can be implemented in Tasks identified through Needs Analysis which
is relevant to their needs in the future profession.
