BIMBINGAN BELAJAR TEKNIK PETA PIKIRAN (MIND MAP) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BELAJAR SISWA

ABSTRACT: This study was initially conducted due to the fact that the are still many students found to have difficulties in learning, either because of their less precise learning methods or their low learning skill. This was shown in the number of students who did cheating during tests and a large number of students who learn only if there will be daily tests or exams. It is therefore, students’ learning skill needs to be improved. To improve the learning skill, a guidance and counseling service which suits the characteristics and needs of adolescents is required.
This study aims at determining the effectiveness of tutoring service with Mind Map technique to improve the learning skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Teras Boyolali in the academic year of 2013/2014.
This research is a Quasi-Experiment with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The sample in this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Teras Boyolali, in total of 60 students. The sampling technique used is purposive random sampling. The data were collected through a questionnaire instrument on learning skill. The validity of the instrument is tested through a computer program, Microsoft Exel 2007 using Product Moment correlation, while the instrument reliability is tested using the Alpha Cronbach with reliability coefficient of 0.8938. The data were then analyzed using SPSS Statistics 17.0 with Independent Samples T Test technique of analysis.
Based on the results of hypothesis testing using SPSS Statistics 17.0 with Independent Samples T Test technique of analysis on the difference in pretest - posttest scores, it is shown that to value of 7.383 > tt of 2.048 with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, so H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted thus it can be said that there is a significant difference on study skill improvement between the experimental group given the treatment and the control group who did not receive treatment.
This study suggests that tutoring service with mind map technique is effective to improve the learning skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Teras, Boyolali in the academic year of 2013/2014.
