PENGARUH KATALIS DALAM PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH PLASTIK LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LDPE) DENGAN METODE PIROLISIS
Abstract: Plastic waste is
generated each year by the entire world. The most type of plastic waste
produced is polyethylene. Plastic that has been used will be wasted and
accumulated in landfills because of non-biodegradble. The problem can be solved
by processing plastics into liquid fuel using pyrolysis method. The sample used
was a type of plastic waste Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) with a zeolite,
SiO2, Al2O3, and CaO catalyst. In this research, the effect of catalyst on
reaction temperature, reaction time, and liquid product volume produced was
studied. The results of Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) and Gas
Cromatografy-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis of the product showed that the
type of liquid fuel produced was mixture of kerosene and diesel fractions on
carbon chain between C9-C27. The most effective catalyst in pyrolysis proces
for LDPE was Al2O3, with the amount of liquid fuel produced as 11 mL of 20 g of
sample for 150 minutes and degradation temperature 120-160°C.
