KULIT JENGKOL (Pithecellobium jiringa Prain.) SEBAGAI BIOSORBEN UNTUK PENYERAPAN ION LOGAM Pb(II) DAN Cu(II) DARI AIR LIMBAH
Abstrak: The ability of
Pithecellobium jiringa Prain shells, a typical Indonesia agricultural by
product, for removing of Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions has been studied. The effects
of pH, initial metal ion concentration, contact time, adsorbent dosage, and
agitation speed were investigated in batch experiments. The metal ions concentration was analyzed
by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry
(AAS) method. The optimum adsorption conditions of Pb(II) onto Pithecellobium
jiringa Prain shells was occurred at pH 3, concentration 4000 mg/L, 30 min
contact time, 0.1 g adsorbent dosage, and 30 rpm agitation speed, whereas for
Cu(II) was occurred at pH 5, 3000 mg/L Cu(II) concentration, 90 min contact
time, 0.3 g weight of biosorbent, and 30
rpm agitation speed. The functional groups on biosorbent was characterized by
Fourier Transformation Infra Red (FTIR). The equilibrium adsorption data under
range concentration studied was analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm
models. Adsorption of both ions onto Pithecellobium jiringa Prain shells was
fitted well with Langmuir isotherm model and was found adsorption capacity for
Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions was 36.36 mg/g and 14.73 mg/g, respectively. The present
work was applied for removing Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions contained in Batang Arau
river, Padang and obtained adsorption capacity 0.48 mg/g and 0.17 mg/g with
adsorption efficiency 72,28% and 95.52% for Pb(II) and Cu(II) ion,
respectively.
