PENGEMBANGAN SISTEM INFORMASI BERBASIS SMS UNTUK PEMANTAUAN STATUS GIZI BALITA

Abstract: SMS (Short Message Service) is a information system in monitoring the nutritional status of children under five which includes 3 components;  decision making, alert system, and data presentation. Until now,  Health Card (KMS) is used as the only one  of tools in monitoring the growth of children under five in Indonesia. However,  besides of its  many  benefits, KMS also  has a  number  of  limitations. Such  as, requires  a  huge cost to print the paper, limitations of children growth data acces, because KMS is only held by the parents, time  required  for  reporting  to  the  regency  become  longer,  required  a  large  storage,  and  to  find  the  data required  a  long  time.  SMS  –  based  research  (RapidSMS)  has  been  done  to  resolve  the  problem,  such  as  data  transmission  delays,  poor  data  quality,  information  flows  which  only  in  one  direction,  and  high operational  costs when  using  paper  (paper based). Regarding  data quality, RapidSMS has error rate 2.8%, below  the  error  rate  with  paper  based  range  14.2%.  Similarly,  the  issue  of  costs,  RapidSMS  success  to reduce  costs  significantly,  when  compared  with  surveillance  using  paper.  We  conclude,  the  development information  system  based  on  information  technology  is  necessary  to  optimize  infant  growth  monitoring system.
