Abstract: Breast milk is the
best food for infants which contains the most complete and ideal nutritional composition
for the growth and development of infants during the first 6 months. The aim of this research was to investigate the
relationship between education, employment, knowledge, and initiation of
breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding in infants aged 7-10 months. This
study was an observational research with cross sectional design. The number of
respondents was 80 infants. The data were collected through interview. The
correlations between two variables were analyzed by Chi square. Respondents who
had had higher education were 60%, most respondents were housewives (71.25%),
the majority of respondents had a good knowledge of breastfeeding (92.50%),
most mothers had done initiation of breastfeeding (63.75 %), and mothers who
did not breast feed their infants exclusively were 60.00%. There was not any
significant correlation between education (p = 0.136), knowledge of breastfeeding
(p = 0.603) and exclusive breastfeeding. Meanwhile, there was significant
correlationbetween employment status (p = 0.000) and initiation of
breastfeeding (p = 0.002) and exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, level of
education and knowledge of breastfeeding were not related to exclusive
breastfeeding, while employment status and initiation of breastfeeding had
significant correlation with exclusive breastfeeding.
