FAKTOR–FAKTOR YANG BERHUBUNGAN DENGAN PEMBERIAN ASI EKSKLUSIF DI KECAMATAN KARANGMALANG KABUPATEN SRAGEN

Abstract: Breast milk is the best food for infants which contains the most complete and ideal nutritional composition for the growth and development of infants during the first 6 months. The  aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between education, employment, knowledge, and initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding in infants aged 7-10 months. This study was an observational research with cross sectional design. The number of respondents was 80 infants. The data were collected through interview. The correlations between two variables were analyzed by Chi square. Respondents who had had higher education were 60%, most respondents were housewives (71.25%), the majority of respondents had a good knowledge of breastfeeding (92.50%), most mothers had done initiation of breastfeeding (63.75 %), and mothers who did not breast feed their infants exclusively were 60.00%. There was not any significant correlation between education (p = 0.136), knowledge of breastfeeding (p = 0.603) and exclusive breastfeeding. Meanwhile, there was significant correlationbetween employment status (p = 0.000) and initiation of breastfeeding (p = 0.002) and exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, level of education and knowledge of breastfeeding were not related to exclusive breastfeeding, while employment status and initiation of breastfeeding had significant correlation with exclusive breastfeeding.
