Perbedaan Tekanan Intraokular Pra dan Pasca Fakoemulsifikasi pada Pasien Katarak di Klinik Mata Kambang Jambi Tahun 2013

Abstract: Cataract is the leading cause of blindness. Treatment of cataract essentially consist of cataract surgery. One of the surgical technique is phacoemulsification which use ultrasound energy to remove cloudy lens. Several previous studies indicated that phacoemulsification affect the intraocular pressure by increasing the pressure within 8-12 hour postoperastively while another long-term studies showed decreasing of intraocular pressure that persist up to 2 years postoperatively. This study aimed to compare differences between intraocular pressure pre and post-phacoemulsification cataract patients in Jambi Kambang Eye Clinic 2013.
Methods: This study is a quantitative analytical research approach quasi-experimental study including 48 cataract patient selected by consecutive sampling technique. The research was conducted at Kambang Eye Clinic Jambi from April to June  2013. Intraocular pressure was measured 4 times by a non-contact tonometry consist of preoperative (1-3 day preopertively), postoperative follow up I  (1-4 day post-operatively), follow up II (5-7 day post-operatively) and follow up III (8-14 day post-operatively). Statistical test use paired t-test. A p value of 0,05 or less was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean of intraocular pressure was as follows :  preoperatively 13.563 mmHg,  follow up I postoperatively, 11,219 mmHg , follow up II postoperatively  , 11.521 mmH and follow up III postoperatively, 11.646 mmHg.  The result showed significant difference between intraocular pressure pra and post-phacoemulsification follow up I, pra and post-phacoemulsification follow up II and intraocular pressure pra and post-phacoemulsification follow up III (p-value 0,000)
Conclusion: There are significant differences between intraocular pressure pre and post-phacoemulsification in cataract patient who had undergone phacoemulsification. Phacoemulsificasi reduce intraocular  pressure after cataract surgery.
