Peranan Polisomnografi dalam Diagnosis Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)
Abstract: Sleep is a basic
human necessity that is very important for mental and health recovery. If we
miss our sleep time, our mind and body will not function properly. One of the
causes of bad quality sleep is Restless
Legs Syndrome (RLS),
which is serious enough to interfere
with normal physical, mental and emotional functioning. RLS is a condition that
is characterized by an irresistible urge to move one's legs in order
to stop uncomfortable
or odd sensations.
RLS can be
detected, diagnosed, and
evaluated by polysomnography (PSG).
This paper discusses
the indication of
RLS and explains
the role of
PSG in evaluating RLS. The research method is a descriptive survey
with the retrospective data taken from the sleep laboratory medical record. The
result of the study revealed that RLS
patients exhibited shorter total sleep
time, lower sleep
efficiency, higher arousal
index, higher number
of stage shifts
and increasing periodic limb
movement in sleep (PLMS). In conclusion, PSG has an important role in
diagnosing and evaluating RLS because it can detect PLMS, RLS-PLMS severity,
sleep stage, total sleep time, and change of sleep stages. PSG may also be used
to indicate people with signs and symptoms appropriate with RLS criteria.
