PENGARUH TEKNIK RELAKSASI PROGRESIF OTOT TERHADAP KECUKUPAN TIDUR LANSIA DI PANTI SOSIAL TRESNA WERDHA UNIT BUDHI LUHUR YOGYAKARTA
Abstract: Elderly is
a closing period
of life, i.e.
a period characterized
by the departing
of someone from useful times. It is predicted that on 2010 the number
ofelders in Indonesia is 24 people
(9.77%) (WHO, 2010),
while in Yogyakarta
it is 14%—the
highest throughout the country
after Central Java
(11.6%) and South
Celebes (9.05%). During
the aging, a
sleeping pattern among the
elders undergoes typical
changes differentiating it
from that of
younger people, i.e. 6 hours a day. According to Nugroho (2000), the age
group of 40 years old is only found in 7% of cases on sleeping problems (they
can only sleep no more than 5 hours a
day). However, the age group of 70 years is found in 22% of the same
cases. Objective of this study is to find out the effect of muscle progressive
relaxation technique on sleeping adequacy among elders in Social House “Tresna
Werdha” of “Budhi Luhur” Unit, Yogyakarta. The study used a quantitative method
with a quasi-experimental design and one-group pre- and post-test design. The
sample used was collected by using a simple random samplingwith the number of
sample 62 people. The instrument
of collecting data was
questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using the t-test analysis, i.e. a paired ttest. The
level of sleeping adequacy among elders before they weregiven the muscle
progressive relaxation technique was in a moderate category of 67.7% and after
they were given the muscle progressive
relaxation technique increased
to be 93.5%.
Result of the
t-test indicates that p=0.0001. There
was a significant
effect of the muscle progressive
relaxation technique on sleeping
adequacy among elders
in Social House “Tresna
Werdha” of “Budhi
Luhur” Unit, Yogyakarta, with a
significance level of 0.0001.
