KARAKTERISASI KEKUATAN MATERIAL TABUNG GAS ELPIJI 3 KG STANDAR SNI DAN NON-SNI
ABSTRACT: The rise
of news about the many fires which allegedly caused by the
explosion of Elpiji gas cylinders, interesting to be studied and
researched. While Pertamina in charge of Elpiji gas cylinder manufacturer in Indonesia
strongly denied that the fire that accompanied the explosion was not caused by
the bursting of the cylinders. The
opinion is based on Elpiji
cylinder manufacturers who have been
out of Pertamina and marketed to the user community has been
standardized (SNI). In fact, it has been found Elpiji gas cylinders especially
3kg cylinders - which is unoriginal
SNI standard on
the market. This study will measure the characteristics of the material 3kg
Elpiji gas cylinders that SNI and Elpiji gas cylinders that SNI artificial (non-SNI), which is
found in the market. Measurement and testing conducted aiming to determine
the material characteristics of these two types of gas cylinders,
including tensile strength, the strength of the gas pressure in the cylinders, the
content of each material
composition and microstructure observation. The results of tests performed on
both types of material such 3kg Elpiji gas cylinders, concluded that the
tensile strength of both types of cylinders satisfy the standard (SNI), but
based on testing conducted proved that the composition of material non-SNI gas
cylinders are not tested in accordance with SNI standard 07 - 3018-2006 refers
to the standard JIS G 3116, a class of SG 26 (SG 255), SG 30 (SG 295).
Microstructure of the picture cylinders material non-SNI look more ferrite
phase and the phase grains larger than the cylinders material SNI. Plus the
fact that the thickness dimension of non-SNI cylinders plate which is thinner
than the SNI cylinder, making the body non-SNI cylinder becomes easier to
deform and vulnerable (susceptible) to shock and impact loads. Pressure in the
cylinder test performed on both types of cylinders that are safe, so the
cylinder will not cause an explosion due to gas pressure.
