Abstract: Aims of this
research is to know the recovery of charcoal, chemical compound and its
recovery of wood vinegar produce during
the carbonization process of Rhizophora wood in three diameter classes, £10 cm,
11 – 19 cm and ³20 cm. Complete
Randomized Design (CRD) 3 x 3 was applied to analysis data, treatments are
diameter class (D1 = £10 cm, D2= 11 – 19 cm and D3 = ³20 cm) and three
replications. The result shows, average
charcoal recovery of Rhizophora with £10
cm in diameter is 20 % and wood vinegar recovery is 3,07 % ; 11 cm to 19 cm in
diameter produce 43, 33 % of charcoal and 3,47 of wood vinegar and ³20 cm. in
diameter produce 40 % of charcoal and 3,27 % of wood vinegar. There are 24
chemical compounds found in wood vinegar of Rhizophora, mostly classified as
alcoholic, Phenol, Ether, Ketene, carbocillate acid, Ester and Benzene. Five
chemical compounds dominate in wood vinegar are Phenol, 2,4-Trimethoxybenzene,
Mequinol, Phenol, 2-methyl, 2- furancarboxaldehyde and Phenol. Qualitative
analysis of those chemical compounds shows that wood vinegar of Rhizophora is
good in quality, because its has 1,0168 gr/ml in density, acidity is 10,37 %,
yellow red brown in color and the smell is good and this product accepted by
Japanese Standard (JAS).
