PENGARUH ROOTONE-F DAN MEDIA TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN STEK PUCUK ULIN (Eusideroxylon zwageri T et B)
Abstract: Ulin (Eusideroxylon
zwageri T et B) is one of tropical forest tree species that is still in the
best-seller due to its strength and durability. Unfortunately, it tends to be
extinct because of continuous exploitation. To protect the ulin trees from the
extinction, they should be cultivated through juvenile cuttings because the
cultivation of ulin through old branch cuttings has been unsuccessful. Based on
the result of Asnowos’ research in 1996, ulin was able to be propagated through
juvenile cuttings from coppice garden of 2-3 years old with rootone-F as auxin.
Yet, the optimum dosage of rootone-F per cutting was not known. Therefore, it
was studied the effect of the variety of rootone-F doses on the growth of
juvenile cuttings of ulin which were planted on sand and topsoil substrates.
The Objective of research was to find out the optimum dosage of rootone-F and
the appropriate substrate on the growth of the juvenile cuttings. Factors
applied were rootone-F (A) and substrates (B). Rootone-F consisted of four
levels i.e. A1 = 25 mg, A2 = 50 mg, A3 = 75 mg and A4 = 100 mg per cutting.
Substrates consisted of three levels i.e. B1 = 100% sand, B2 = 50% sand + 50%
topsoil, and B3 = 100% topsoil. The result showed that the Interaction between
rotone-F and a substrate (AB) gave significant effect on the height increment
of the cuttings. A dosage of 75
mg/cutting planted on topsoil (A3B3) was the best treatment on the height
increment of the cuttings (the increment reached 0.91 cm on average within four
months).
