Abstract: Making charcoal
briquettes from coconut palm (Elaeis guinensis Jack) and patchouli oil refinery
waste (Pogestemon Cablin Benth) is an activity of utilizing the waste. The
benefits of this research can be a source of new information about the utilization
of waste so as not to waste, especially waste from oil palm shell and patchouli
distillation waste. Stages used in this study consisted of making the test
samples, testing samples of test determination of water content, ash content,
substance flying, carbon remaining, density and calorific value. Charcoal
briquettes from oil palm shell has a characteristic - features, flammable, do
not smoke too much because it uses tapioca adhesive that can reduce the smoke,
smell relatively pleasant odor that is not really stung because the use of the
waste mixture of patchouli, a little blue flame. The spark of interest - the
interest of fire occurred during the first burn, it is because kipasan
influence. After the surface of the charcoal briquettes burning, sparks was
reduced. The fire burned from above the surface and propagate downward so that
the charcoal briquettes will burn away without treatment fan again.
