KARAKTERISTIK SISTEM PERLADANGAN SUKU DAYAK MERATUS KECAMATAN LOKSADO KALIMANTAN SELATAN
Abstract: The
shiftingcultivation system is a traditional use of land that is inherited in
generations. The pattern is done by people of Dayak Meratus tribe in Loksado
District, South Kalimantan. People of Dayak Meratus call the system as gilir
balik cultivation. Steps in cultivation activities consist of cutting down,
felling, burning, dibbling, weeding and harvesting. Each step related closely
to custom ritual of Kaharingan done by local society. Dayak society has custom
laws and rules related to the cultivation that is forbidden to break. The
research was done in three locations of different villages with similar
cultivation pattern but due to distance and introduction of outside religion
and culture the custom ritual is left slowly. Cultivation in the three villages
indicated change in land preparation system, where more population resulted in
narrower land and shorter fallow period. People began to use fertilizer and
pesticide in cultivation. People also do a simple agroforestry system to add
field yield to meet their needs. In non agricultural sectors, people add their
income by trading and service (driver, labor, craftsman) or they leave their
villages to look for jobs. In general,
people who work in field live with traditional live pattern with low welfare
and education level.
