PENANGANAN KRISIS PUBLIC RELATIONS MELALUI MEDIA RELATIONS PT. PLN (PERSERO) APJ BANTEN UTARA (Studi Deskriptif Pemadaman Listrik Bergilir pada bulan September–Oktober 2009)

ABSTRACT: A crisis is often considered by one company as a virus or epidemic which gnaws it. The reason why crisis can be happened is because the limitedness of human’s ability to answer correctly every demand of environments and the failure of technology which is used. On the other hand, the crisis that occurs in one company sometimes is also regarded as a turning point to reach the better condition. PT. PLN (Persero) ever experienced a crisis that caused the general blackout in entire Indonesia. In the handing of this crisis, there are several things that have to be paid attention, one of those is media. Here, media has a role as an element which delivers information from the company to public, and this role is very important. The objective of this research is to know how the process of Media Relations that is implemented by PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten Public Relations, in the term of handling the crisis, especially, when the blackout happen. This research is made to describe how PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten solve the electrical crisis. This research is made by using descriptive qualitative method. The main informant in this research is the liable holder of public relations department in PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten, besides that researcher also make some information that are gotten from mass media as supporting informant and for testing the validity of data. The method of collecting data which is used is interview and documentation. The result of this research describe that in handling the crisis through media relations, critical paces that are used by Public Relation of PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten is by creating a good relationship with media both printed and electronic medias, local and national. The activities of media relations which are used are also various in form and technique, from having lunch together until press conference, technique of communication which is done in informal way, and personal approach and advertisement contract with those media. The last conclusion of this research, the public relations of PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten in handling the crisis PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten with personal approach and informal communication, in addition, the different objective concept of media relations of PT. PLN (Persero) APJ North Banten Public Relations increase people awareness about the crisis which is going on.
