MAGI SEBAGAI ACUAN IDENTITAS DIRI ORANG MENTAWAI DALAM HUBUNGAN ANTAR SUKU BANGSA
Abstract: Culture is
an abstract knowledge
that can not
be separated from
society. Culture and society
are supported by
the environment has
its own order
so as to
have a different view of
the world apart
from each other,
belong to the
view of belief
systems. Belief system known as
the Mentawai people trust Arat Sabulungun used in understanding and interpreting the
environment around him
consisting of human
interaction patterns, animals, plants,
soil, water, air,
and also objects
results man-made so
as to encourage the establishment of action arising
out of the people as members of society the Mentawai tribe.
One belief system there is
Magi. Magi as a system of actions
and attitudes of people to achieve a
purpose to master
and utilize the
power and magic
that exists in
the law of nature through certain ceremonies which
basically serves to protect the family (clan) of danger, either
disease or ill
will, expect results game
a lot, protect
crop fields and
pigs and chickens from disaster.
Magi also be used to influence
others in order to achieve a purpose, it is often referred to as black magic
