Abstract: Synthesis and
characterization of diatomaceous earth-2-mercaptobenzothiazole adsorbent has been
done. The aim of this research were the synthesis an adsorbent of diatomaceous
earth- 2- ercaptobenzothiazole and characterization of this adsorbent with the
FT.IR spectroscopy to determine -SH group. The result of this research showed
that before the synthesis of diatomaceous earth-2-mercaptobenzothiazole
adsorbent, the diatomaceous was purred by KMnO4, H2SO4 and HCl solutions to
remove the other compounds and de-alumination. The –SH group from the spectra
of diatomaceous earth- 2-mercaptobenzothiazole adsorbent was not detected by
FT.IR.
