ABSTRACT: Woodfordia
floribunda Salisb. is one of the species belonging to the Lythraceae family. It
used as a traditional medicine and known contain tritepenoids and steroids.
This study was aimed to isolate a steroid from W. floribunda and determine its
structure. Isolation was done using column chromatography with the stationary
phase of silica gel. The isolation work resulted in a pure isolate in the form
of white needle crystal with the ultraviolet, infrared, and GC-MS. The result of
analysis indicated that the compound was assumed to be steroid, and the basis
of comparison of its GC-MS spectrum with that of the literature the compound
was stigmasta-7,22-dien-3-ol.
