Pengaruh Pemberian Beta Karoten terhadap Persentase Jumlah Fetus Mencit (Mus musculus) Hidup yang diberi Paparan Asap Rokok Kretek
Abstract: This research was
conducted to observe the aplication of different doses of beta carotene toward
live fetus percentage in mice (Mus musculus) that exposured by cigarette smoke.
Cigarrete smoke exposured during pregnancy can increase the levels of Reactive Oxygen
Species (ROS) that disrupts the physiological maternal pregnancy and embryonic development.
Beta carotene was able to reduce levels of ROS which act as antioxidants. This
research was used 20 female matured mice and 20 male matured mice. Female mice were
divided randomly into fve groups and each got four repetitions. Each group was used
different dose. First group was negative control and used soya oil, second
group was positive control and used soya oil and one cigarette, third group was
used beta carotene 32,5 IU / 20 g BW in soya oil and one cigarrete, fourth
group was used beta carotene 65 IU / 20 g BW in soya oil and one cigarrete,
ffth group was used beta carotene 130 IU / 20g BW in soya oil and one
cigarrete. The experiment given per-orally of beta carotene and exposured
cigarette smoke 6 – 15 pregnancy days. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and
Duncan test. The result showed that aplication of beta caroten was significantly
different for live fetus in mice (P<0.05). Based on the research, the
conclusion was that the oral administration of beta carotene can maintain live
fetus percentage in pregnant mice (Mus musculus) that exposured by cigarette
smoke.
