Pengaruh Suhu Pencampuran Terhadap Kekuatan Tarik Dan Fracture Toughness Epoxy Resin – Organoclay Montmorillonite Nanokomposit
Abstract: This research aimed
to determine the effect of mixing temperature on the mechanical characteristics
epoxy resin - organoclay montmorillonite nanocomposite form of tensile strength
and fracture toughness. Composites made from nanomer I.30E, bisphenol A epoxy
resin and curing agent versamide 140 with heat mixing method with variations in
temperature 60 ° C, 80 ° C, 100 ° C, 120 ° C, 140 ° C. Mixing process is
carried out for 3 hours at a speed of 350 rpm with 2% of the volume fraction of
montmorillonite. Tensile strength refers to the ASTM D 638 while the fracture
toughness testing refers to ASTM D 5045. Observations on the fracture surface
of the composite cross section is done using SEM (Scanning Electron
Microscopy). The results of this study are as follows: (1) increase in
temperature from 60 °C mixing to 100 °C will raise the mechanical strength of
the composite, (2) tensile strength increased by 7.21% fracture toughness
increased by 50%, (3) after the temperature reaches 120 °C mechanical strength
began to drop because the secondary bond is lost and because of the void, (4)
down 2.58% tensile strength and fracture toughness down by 23.33%.
