Abstract: The distortions of
Islamic history has been begun in the formative period of classical Islam and
it was done deliberately to win the interests of conflicting groups among the
ummah. This article try to uncover this kind of distortion; and in doing so it
must be based on the main source texts of classical Islam history. The case of
Ibnu Abbas, in dealing with the public trassure of Basrah, will give a light
how such distortions could be done easily by hiding a certain data of main
source texts. It can be said that corruption of historical knowledge was aimed
to wrapt corruptions in other spects of Islamic history.
