INFLUENCE OF MILLING TIME ON STRUCTURAL AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF ZnO NANOPARTICLES PREPARED BY MECHANICAL MILLING
ABSTRACT: Influences of the
milling time on structural and magnetic
properties of nanocrystalline ZnO samples prepared by mechanical milling
process have been studied in detail. Experimental results reveal that with
varying the milling time from 1 to 24 hrs the average crystallite size
calculated from Scherrer’s equation is in the range of 13 - 18 nm. All the
samples exhibit the ferromagnetic behavior above room temperature. The
ferromagnetic order increased with increasing the milling time. By means of
X-ray diffraction analyses and measurements
of the magnetization versus temperature, we suggest that the
ferromagnetism in ZnO nanoparticles is due to a Fe0.902O-related metastable
phase, in which Fe impurity is generated from the stainless steel vial wall and
balls.
