Abstract: Indonesia is a
tropical country which has the richest biodiversity in the world. According
Surpriatna (2008 ) , Indonesia first level position in the world for diversity
of plants , including ferns ( Pteridophyta ) . Total ferns are nearly 10,000
known species in the world , of which grow in Indonesia ( Loveless , 1999) .
Distribution of the types of ferns is strongly influenced by the climatic
conditions in the region where the ferns alive . Irenggolo waterfall is a
tourist attraction area located in Kediri district , more precisely in the
country side of Besuki , Jugo village , sub district Mojo which has an altitude
of about 1000-1200 dpl, 240-280 above sea level with temperature and humidity
is high at 70 % - 90 % . Forest conditions in this area is still relatively
intact, because it is not cut down by residents around the area . These
conditions make this area very suitable for the growth and development of ferns
.The results of the study region Irenggolo waterfalls have found 14 species of
plants, consisting of 2 classes (Lycopsida and Polypodiopsida), 3 nations
(Selaginellale, Cyatheales and Polypodiales) and 13 tribes . From above two
classes above , the most widely found species is Polypodiopsida class
consisting of two parts : (1) .
Cyatheales with 1 family Cyatheaceae. (2). Polypodiales with 12 tribes (Cyatheaceae
, Thelypteridaceae, Aspidiaceae, Aspleniaceae, Lindseae, Pteridaceae,
Nephrolepidaceae, Thelypteridaceae , Adiantaceae , Dennstaedtiaceae ,
Gleicheniaceae and Woodsiaceae). While Lycopsida class have one tribe and one
tribe Selaginellales Sellaginellaceae . Then from the results of the literature
study mentioned that the type of ferns such as Selaginella sp , Cyathea sp ,
Tectaria sp , Lindsaea sp , Adiantum sp and Athyriumsp haveefficacious that
potential for medicine
