HUBUNGAN ANTARA KECEMASAN AKADEMIK DENGAN ACADEMIC SELF MANAGEMENT PADA SISWA SMA KELAS X UNGGULAN

ABSTRACT: To be a successful students in education, they need an ability to regulate the behavior as  known  as  academic  self    management.  Academic  self  management  is  a  strategy that students used to control the factors that impede the learning (Dembo, 2004). One of the factors that influence students academic self management is anxiety. Academic anxiety  is  an  anxious  feeling  about  the  overall  picture  of  academic  evaluation, including  test  preparation,  test  taking,  and  assignment  completion  (Otten,  1991). Students who experience anxiety indicate a particular difficulty in instruction so that they loss regulated process and involves short-term and long-term memory (Tobias in Matthews,  2000).  In  this  case,  if  students  experience  anxiety  they  will  lose  regulate process that will impact on their academic self management. 
This  study  aims  to  determine  the  relationship  between  academic  anxiety  with academic  self  management  in  the  excellence  class  10th  grade  students  of  SMA Sutomo  I  Medan.  The  subjects  in  this  research  were  135  people.  Measuring instrument was used an academic anxiety scale with reliability of 0.910 which consist of 31 items and  academic self management scale with the reliability  of 0.928 which consist of 47 items.  Data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment and showed that  correlation  r  =  -0.597  with  a  significance  level  of  p  <  0.05  (p  =  0.000),  the conclusion  that  there  was  negative  relationship  between  academic  anxiety  with academic  self  management  in  the  excellence  10th  grade  students  of  SMA  Sutomo  I Medan.
