PENGEMBANGAN MODEL SEDERHANA PEMBIBITAN SAPI BALI DI PAPUA
ABSTRACT: This paper discusses
a simple model breeding program for Bali cattle that can be practicable and
economically feasible under Papua conditions. Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus, Bos
javanicus, Bos banteng) is an indigenous cattle that plays an important role in
livestock development in Indonesia. The average characteristics performances of
Bali cattle are: male birth weight is 17 kg and female 14 kg, age at sexual
maturity for both male and female is 16 month, Adult liveweight for male is 475
kg and female is 250 kg, daily weight gain is beetwen 200-600 gr, carcass
weight is 200 kg, dressing persentage is 56%. It is concluded that the model
breeding program of Bali cattle in Papua must be simple in structure, simple
recording and natural mating reproduction.. Farmers involvement becomes a key
for development.in the implementation of the model, based on economic values.
