PENENTUAN KONDISI OPTIMUM AKTIVITAS KATALITIK MANGAN(II) YANG DIGRAFTING PADA SILIKA MODIFIKASI
Abstract: Catalyst is a
compound that is widely used in industry to synthesize chemicals. In this work,
a catalyst namely Mn(II)-acetonitrile immobilized on silica modifications have
been successfully synthesized and applied as catalyst in transesterification of
fried oil at its optimum conditions (catalyst concentration (% w/w)), speed of
stirring and time reaction). The modified silica was characterized by Fourier
Transform Infra Red (FT-IR) and Nano-Laser Particle Size Analyzer (NL-PSA)
while Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) was used to determine the metal
loading and leaching of the grafted sample. Transesterfification products were
analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). Based on NL-PSA
measurement, particle size of silica and its modified form showed dominantly
around 100 μm. FromAAS analysis, loading and leaching metal values are
3.472% and 2.218%, respectively. The optimum conditions of the catalyst was to
be 0.5% catalyst concentration, 100 rpm of stirring speed and 5 hours reaction
time.
