DISTRIBUSI DAN KEPADATAN PLANKTON DI PERAIRAN TELUK AMBON

ABSTRACT: This research is done started from April until July 2007 in Ambon Bay at 17 station which is representative sample of inner and outer bay. Sampling used by net of plankton KITAHARA (phytoplankton) and NORPAC (zooplankton). Result of the research showed that the distribution of plankton is concentrated in inner bay in which indication from height in average of plankton density. Highest of phytoplankton density is 24x106 cell/m3 occurred on May, and the highest of zooplankton density occurred on August about 9520 ind./m3. Predominance plankton in Ambon Bay are Chaetoceros, Thallasionema, Nitzchia, Rhizosolenia, Thalassiosira, Trichodesmium for phytoplankton, and Copepod, Chaetognath, Lucifer, Thaliacea/Larvacea for zooplankton, and Meroplankton. The highest percentage of plankton reach about 63.47% (Thalassiosira) and 62.27% (Copepod). Blooming of red tide from non toxic phytoplankton occured on April by Thalassiosira and Trichodesmium, but it is not caused negative impact to the ecological condition in Ambon Bay.
